I Spy

The latest installment in an occasional series: how I unplugged over the weekend.

The most clever thing I saw this weekend…

You’re familiar with the ice cream truck, right? Well, in a river city it just makes good business sense to get yourself an ice cream boat. Easy money on a hot day at a crowded beach. This cheered me no end. I always seem to learn something useful from visiting the river.

The weirdest thing I saw this weekend…

So we went to the coast to cool off and got colder than we expected. Hot, hot, hot – until you got right up to the edge of the Pacific and then – instead of feeling like one could see all the way to Japan as usual – we were enveloped in a cold, windy, misty fog. I’ve never experienced anything like it. It was physically refreshing and downright curious. I could have walked for hours.

The dumbest thing I saw this weekend…

I somehow let myself get sucked into watching part of the old Star Wars trilogy. Man, that Luke Skywalker is an annoying little twerp. Didn’t get it in fifth grade, don’t get it now. Not exactly unplugging at it’s best.

The tastiest thing I saw ate this weekend…

The free blackberries that grow over our back fence. Harvesting a bucket-full leaves one with a few scratches, but it’s totally worth it. Mmm. Mmm. I love summer.
