Bite the Candy!
When we put something off – even a simple task – it can become encased in layers and layers of stories: our excuses for not doing it in the first place, our guilt about not having done it long ago, and so forth.
That unfinished task becomes a giant tootsie-pop of a to-do, yet at the center remains the yummy tootsie-roll goodness of having gotten the thing done.
And we we all know there are two ways to eat a tootsie pop: you can slowly lick your way to the center or you can just bite the candy and enjoy it now.
Sometimes you need to take your time. Sometimes you need to explore what your procrastination and resistance to this thing is all about. Sometimes you need to be patient with the process and yourself.
But sometimes all you need is a period of focused time – along with a bit of guidance, accountability, encouragement, humor and comraderie – to finally get that tootsie-pop off your to-do list. And that’s what Bite the Candy sessions are here for.
Bite the Candy teleclasses are held the last Thursday of each month.

How It Works
When you register, you will receive an email with instructions on how to prepare and get the most from your Bite the Candy session.
On the day of the session you will join a conference call from wherever you are. You and the other participants will introduce yourselves, share what you want to accomplish, and ask for any guidance you may need before we dive into our projects for the next hour.
Mid-way through the session, we’ll call in again to catch our breath and share what we’ve done so far (woo hoo!) and get support for the next hour’s work. We’ll keep this short so we don’t lose our momentum.
At the end of the session, we’ll call in for a final time to celebrate successes and talk about ways to continue biting the candy beyond the session.
Any tasks you’ve been putting off (or are likely to put off – nothing wrong with being preemptive) are fair game for BTC – from putting away that pile of papers on top of your filing cabinet to vacuuming the floor of your car. Even small tasks can be surprisingly delicious to finish. [see FAQ for more info]
Whether doing away with an odious chore or devoting uninterrupted time to a special project, you will be propelled by the momentum that comes from working with a group of like-minded people.

FAQ
What kinds of tasks can I do during the session?
My to-do list isn’t organized enough to have a top and bottom!
And there’s way too much to choose from! How do I decide?
Nothing is off-limits. People bring all kinds of projects to Bite the Candy. If it’s on your to-do list, it’s probably suitable. Here are some ways you might narrow it down.
Do the easiest thing(s).
Use them as warm-ups for the heavier lifting. Give yourself some easy wins to build up confidence and momentum.
Do the oldest thing(s).
Unfinished tasks keep us stuck in the past. Getting rid of the box that has been on the floor of your office for the past year and a half will change your life.
Do the thing(s) that bug you most.
Even if they aren’t high priority, they are draining you. If you get a hit of I should really deal with that box every time you walk by it, eliminating that irritation will also change your life.
Do the “kitchen drawer” thing(s).
You know, the stuff that ends up on the bottom of your list because it doesn’t fit anywhere else in your routine schedule or has no real deadline (we all have ‘em).
Do the most urgent thing(s).
If something seriously bad is gonna happen if you don’t handle this thing now, give yourself the relief of getting it done. We’ll help.
Do the thing(s) with the highest emotional payoff.
In other words, do the thing that will make you feel the most fabulous when you are finished. This might mean feeling liberated from guilt or stress, having more space, helping someone, or getting that much closer to something really cool.
You can take on one big thing or a collection of smaller things. Only rule is you have to choose tasks you can finish by the end of the session. Because I insist that everyone come away with something to celebrate.
What if I want to take on something I am having a lot of anxiety about?
Will participating in a Bite the Candy session help me with that?
How much anxiety?
If all you need is some encouragement and accountability to face your sense of dread: okay. Come on down.
But if you’re quaking in your boots at just the thought of it, probably not.
Because we bite right through all the reasons you haven’t done this thing and all the guilty shameful icky feelings you have about that. We just focus on getting the thing done. We do that compassionately, but we don’t get into your stuff. In fact, I ask that you deliberately set your stuff aside for the session. Not to pretend it’s not real, not because I don’t care, but because going into your stuff will drain you of the energy you need for the work before you even start.
We’re essentially ripping off the band aid (to mix my metaphors) which means you need to be pretty sure the wound underneath has at least scabbed over if not healed altogether and is ready for some fresh air and the light of day.
It’s perfectly okay if you need to leave the band aid on for awhile longer. There are times when that is entirely appropriate. And there are things you can do to help the healing along so you can get ready to do the thing. It’s something we can explore in private Bite the Candy session, during which I’m happy to share my favorite tools and resources.
